While our boat is well equipped with state of the art Navigation, night vision, radar, etc. We also feel it is important to be ready for the possibility of electrical glitches/failure, and possible personal injury or health crisis. We have purchased the Waterway navigation guides that cover our entire route from Florida to Boston, and we have a hand held back up radio. In addition we have a covered life raft for up to 6 people, an EPIRB, and survival suits. For any possible health emergencies we have trauma level first aid kits and a cardiac defibrillator on board….This was prompted by both the motive to be fully prepared for any unexpected situations, and from stories we had heard from other boaters caught in unpredicted weather conditions and who experienced serious medical emergencies when traveling on the water. On the lighter side, we love to cook and so while sampling local fare at ports will certainly be part of our experience, I also plan to make some incredible meals, that will be both tasty and healthy. I will post pics and recipes at that time…certainly anyone reading this blog who has thoughts our ideas that would be of help to us, please feel free to chime in…especially with regards to navigating ICW vs open ocean as we make our way up north.
